LIVABLESF
Working Toward a More Livable San Francisco
LivableSF is a nonprofit organization focused on promoting fair, inclusive, and sustainable transportation policy across San Francisco. We support thoughtful planning that serves the needs of all residents—families, workers, small business owners, and visitors alike.
We’ve joined a legal challenge to Proposition K, a recently passed ballot measure that permanently closed the Upper Great Highway to commuters who rely on it to travel across the Westside and beyond.
Why This Matters
Proposition K:
Raises legal questions about whether local voters can close public roads—an area typically governed by state law.

Avoids environmental review by bypassing California’s CEQA process, which requires studying the impacts of major changes.

Lacks funding or a clear plan for the park it proposes to create in place of the roadway.

This closure affects thousands of people every day—especially on the Westside—by limiting safe, efficient access across the city. We believe major decisions like this should be legally sound, environmentally reviewed, and made with real community input.
That’s why LivableSF has joined residents, small business owners, and neighborhood leaders in challenging this measure in court.
